visit from grandmom and Beau!

Monday, we had a lovely visit from grandmom and her dog, Beau. Samuel has an intact startle reflex, as we discovered when Beau barks, Sam, jumps. Luckily, Beau didn't bark as much as he sometimes does... :- ) Sam enjoyed having both grandmom and Beau around and mommy loved having grandmom here for moral support, as well as a babysitter so she could go grocery shopping alone-- what a luxury!

Sam also shows off how he loves to stand (w/assistance, of course-- he's only 6 mos old!) And Beau had to be right there in the midst, chewing on his own toy--we are all amazed that the dog knows which toys are his, and which are Sam's!

This was grandmom's 2nd visit-- she and auntie Peg came up at the end of June. I'll include photos here. Sam is so active, it's difficult to get a photo of him still when there's so much stuff to do. ha!

And I forgot to add this photo of Sam's 6 mo birthday celebrated w/his friends, Madeline and Zachary. We babysat and Madeline helped us organize a fun little party for Sam, not that he cared too much--it was too close to bedtime and he's not allowed to eat cake, yet! :- )

FYIs

Many have asked what's Sam's birthday-- well today he is 6 months old! He was born Jan 17, 2008.
And another fyi, this blog must be on Pacific time as it always says I posted it about 3 hrs before I actually did. So don't be fooled when I say things like, after dinner, and it's only 2:30 by blogtime--it's actually 5:30! :- )

Getting bigger!

Yesterday was a rough day for poor Sam. We went to see his pediatrician for his 6 mo "well baby" ck-up. And since Sam didn't take a long nap in the morning, he was already quite put out when we arrived, so you can imagine his grief after 3 shots and an oral medication. He felt so violated! :- ) The good news is, he's gaining weight and growing right on target and his doctor is very pleased w/his progress.

Today we went to pool day w/some other moms and young babies and there were a million babies there, it seemed! Sam wasn't as crazy about the pool this time as he was 3 weeks ago. But maybe it was just his legs aching from yesterday's assault. You wdn't know it by the way he kick-kick-kicks them under the water. His friend Zachary was there lounging away in his floaty, hat on, totally chilled, but not Sam, Mr. I-gotta-move! hee hee

After dinner tonight, mommy let him play in his high chair w/a spoon and toddler bowl (empty and clean of course-mom's not as dumb as she looks). He looked so proud of himself, I decided to take his picture and put it on the blog. He's getting sooo big...

It's official...

Oh boy, the boy is crawling... Dad is excited, mom is less than thrilled. :- ) Sam hasn't learned how to sit up from a lying down position, but he has learned how to shoot across the floor once he's prone. We're moving the dangerous things out of reach and will have to use pac-n-play time more than floor time, if one of us can't be right there the whole time! Maybe we'll get a little video clip on here-- Julie's so good at that.
Daddy's also teaching Sam to play guitar. hmmm...
Not much else to report this week. We made a cameo appearance at a pool day-- Kathi and crew were there. Sam enjoyed the kids making over him.

And Cris stopped by for a visit Friday. Sam LOVED her right from the start. I'm hoping if I do the things she recommends, we'll have a singer on our hands someday. Maybe even one who sounds like one of the "B-von-Trappe" family. :- ) I can dream, can't I? Here's Sam and Mrs. B.

Week 3 for WeThree

This has been a week of many firsts-- first "swim" at our friend's pool w/the other babies and moms, learning to sit up for as long as he likes and first time wearing his new sailor outfit-- thank you Ed R!
Poor Samuel has had a tough couple of days, tho you might not know it by the photos. He's teething in earnest--lots of drooling and stuffing hands/fists/parent's knuckles and anything else in reach in the mouth and gnawing on them. From what we hear, if adults had to teethe, they'd be in the ER demanding drugs, so we know Sam's grumpiness is warranted. The three of us will be delighted when those teeth break through, even tho we know there are more to come.
We went to great Aunt Peg's house for a family 4th of July cookout and he got to meet his cousin Will and uncle Bill. (Aunt Pam and cousin Megan met him shortly after his arrival here when they came to bring needed onesies, Dreft detergent and loads of other practical things, plus toy, of course.) We didn't get any photos that day--I can't believe it!
And yesterday was the wedding of our dear friends, Kim and Warren's, eldest son, Jeff. I'll include a blurry photo (something's wrong w/our camera!) of the bride and groom. It was a fun day. Sam went to the wedding but not the reception--Lois babysat for the brief period he was awake while we were out--TY, TY to Lois! He loved being w/ Lois and we were much relieved to hear it. :-)
That's all for now--gotta get the little tyke up from his nap. ttfn, mb for We Three
